Airlink Announces Leadership Changes, Organizational Growth
Steven J. Smith named President & CEO, Jon Sharp joins Board
WASHINGTON, DC— The Airlink Board of Trustees names Steven J. Smith President and CEO. The change reflects the organization’s operational growth and Steve’s successes as Airlink’s Executive Director since joining the team in 2013.
Airlink’s programming and impact have evolved to new levels under Steve’s leadership, delivering thousands of tons of relief cargo as well as deploying thousands of responders around the globe. Since Steve came on board, the organization has also been recognized by the Clinton Global Initiative for its efforts to combat Ebola through constructing an Air Bridge to West Africa. Airlink founding member and outgoing President Robert Brown will remain as chairman of the board, providing continuity of leadership for its governance and further development of its strategic vision.
“This marks the next chapter for Airlink,” says Bob. “This organization and concept have been our passion for a decade, and we are proud of what it has become and the impact it is making as aviation’s go-to disaster response organization. However, this is really only the beginning, and I know Airlink will reach new heights with Steve in charge.”
Airlink also welcomes to its Board of Trustees, Jon Sharp, Group President and Chief Executive Officer of Engine Lease Finance (ELF). Before founding ELF in 1989, Jon spent more than 20 years with Rolls-Royce. Named the ‘Face of Aviation 2014’ by Airline Economics, Sharp brings 50 years of aviation experience to Airlink.
“I’ve enjoyed watching Airlink grow over the years and I’m honored to be joining the organization at such a pivotal time in its history,” Jon says. “I look forward to bringing my knowledge and insight to Airlink and can’t wait to get started.”
Airlink’s Board of Trustees is made up of 15 influential voices within the aviation industry.
